Consultant Ophthalmologist

For this role, the primary clinical focus is phaco-based cataract care alongside routine ophthalmology practice. The consultant will manage the patient’s journey from initial ophthalmic consultation and clinical evaluation through treatment, Topical Phaco where indicated, and subsequent review.

Specialty Care Environment

The hospital has an established Ophthalmology department with an active patient-care setup. The running service provides a focused environment for an experienced consultant to undertake ophthalmic consultations, cataract management, and surgical care while contributing to the continued delivery of specialist eye services.

Clinical Responsibilities

• Run scheduled ophthalmology consultations and address patients’ presenting eye-care requirements.
• Review clinical findings and determine whether cases require medical management, procedural care, or surgical intervention.
• Undertake Topical Phaco procedures as clinically indicated and manage the associated stages of care.
• Discuss treatment options, procedural information, and expected recovery with patients before and after care.
• Review surgical and consultation patients during follow-up and address further ophthalmic requirements.
• Keep consultation and procedure documentation current and coordinate relevant cases with the hospital’s healthcare team.

Position Overview

• Take an active role in maintaining the day-to-day functioning of the ophthalmology service.
• Handle assigned patients with appropriate clinical judgement and attention to continuity of care.
• Maintain professional communication with patients and support clear understanding of their proposed care.
• Work within the hospital’s established procedures and maintain appropriate standards across consultations and surgical services.
• Coordinate with other healthcare professionals when patient requirements involve care beyond ophthalmology.
• Contribute consistently to the delivery of the department’s ongoing specialist eye-care services.
