Consultant Nephrologist

A Consultant Nephrologist is needed to take responsibility for specialist renal care at the hospital, including clinical assessment, treatment planning, and ongoing management of patients with kidney disorders. The position also calls for appropriate handling of nephrology consultations and clinical situations requiring timely specialist intervention, making it suitable for a doctor prepared to contribute independently to the department’s day-to-day practice.

The hospital brings together multiple clinical departments, including Cardiology, Neurology, Orthopedics & Trauma, Urology, General Surgery, Gynecology, Pediatrics, Burn Care, and Intensive Care. This combination of medical and surgical services creates a broad clinical setting in which patients may require input from more than one specialty during the course of treatment.

Within this setting, the Nephrology service has scope to address renal requirements arising through both routine specialist consultations and patients whose kidney-related needs form part of a more complex clinical picture.

Clinical Responsibilities:

• Assess patients presenting with renal complaints and establish an appropriate nephrological diagnosis.
• Formulate individualized management plans for patients with acute or chronic kidney disorders.
• Review renal function and relevant clinical findings to guide treatment decisions during follow-up.
• Oversee patients receiving dialysis and respond appropriately to changes in their clinical condition.
• Provide specialist input when renal complications arise alongside other medical or surgical conditions.
• Identify cases requiring escalation, additional investigation, or intervention beyond routine nephrology management.

• Bring a methodical approach to renal assessment, particularly where kidney dysfunction is associated with other active medical conditions.
• Exercise sound clinical judgment when determining the urgency and direction of nephrological management.
• Maintain clear communication with patients and attendants regarding investigations, treatment decisions, and continuing renal care.
• Work effectively with other treating teams when a patient’s overall condition requires shared clinical input.
• Maintain continuity between initial consultation, active treatment, and subsequent nephrology review.
